Ashlyn Brown is a first year Master’s student majoring in Vocal Performance in the studio of Carol Vaness. Born in Palm Springs, California, this mezzo soprano spent a year singing with the UCLA chamber singers before attending the Jacobs School of Music. In her undergrad, Ashlyn studied with the wonderful Carlos Montané. Ashlyn has had roles as Hansel in the IU Opera Theater’s production of Hansel and Gretel, Aloés in the IU Opera Theater’s production of Emmanuel Chabrier’s L’Étoile, the Third Lady in the Chicago Summer Opera’s production of Die Zauberflöte, and as Mad Margaret in the University Gilbert and Sullivan Society’s Ruddigore. Ashlyn has also done partial roles like Sesto from La Clemenza di Tito and Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro in the Chicago Summer Opera’s scene program. She has also been in five IU Opera Theater choruses, most recently in L’Elisir d’Amore by Gaetano Donizetti. She has also been in the chorus of the University Gilbert and Sullivan Society’s Pirates of Penzance. Last April, Ashlyn was featured as the Mezzo soloist in the Carmel Symphony’s performance of Mozart’s Requiem at the Palladium. In September, Ashlyn will be performing as Cherubino in IU Opera Theater’s production of Le Nozze di Figaro.
