Monzerrat Ruiz graduated from Rancho Mirage High School (RMHS) in 2017. While in High School she was in the PLUS (Peer Leaders Uniting Students).The program taught her leadership and teamwork skills that she can use during on in life. While being part of the program she was the Vice-President and Secretary for the program. Monzerrat thrived in the PLUS program and was chosen to be an officer of the program. She served as Secretary and Vice-President for three years. In these roles she has been responsible for recruiting, training and supervising her peers in the leadership program. Every year a group of approximately 10 students became her mentees and she worked to develop and assess their leadership skills throughout the year.
In addition to the personal one-on-one training offered she also led class wide activities and events to promote positive school culture and leadership training. Monzerrat also served as Vice-President of the Club, Students Against Destructive Decisions. In this role she implemented one of the most impactful events held at Rancho Mirage High School.She worked closely with a small team of student leaders that partnered with the California Highway Patrol and Rancho Mirage Sheriff’s department to host the “Every 15 Minutes” program. Monzerrat was a tremendous asset to Rancho Mirage High School. She also has helped prepare and implement the Family Engagement Center’s district wide family conferences. She is creative and innovative making her a valuable team member in implementing programs and events.
Monzerrat is currently attending College of the Desert. Where she is pursuing a major in Liberal Studies where she plans to transfer to CSUSB Palm Desert where she plans to get a bachelor’s. So that she can give back to her community in a public school where she can teach children. She believes that going into this field she will make a very big impact in children’s lives, so that they can be motivated in the future to go to college and that it is not impossible to go,but it something that anyone can achieve if one puts their mind to it.
