Cynthia Navarrete graduated a Salutatorian from Indio High School’s class of 2015. During her four years at Indio High School, she was involved with many of the Indio High School Bands including Concert Ensemble, Wind Symphony, Jazz Band, Marching Band, and the Desert Sands Unified School District Honor Band. In the majority of the bands she was involved in, Cynthia held leadership positions where she was responsible for being a mentor to her classmates and for their understanding of various pieces of music.
Apart from her extracurricular school activities, Cynthia was also part of the Coachella Valley Youth Ensemble (CVYE) for three years. In CVYE, she played in a flute quartet where they performed for adjudicators and for various events including the Indio Block Party and the Palms Springs Art Festival. In addition to being in a community band, she volunteered for the California Democratic Party’s Office in Indio, where she was actively involved in the Dr. Raul Ruiz Campaign and encouraged the community to vote. She also volunteered at Martha’s Village & Kitchen in which she helped organize and stock donated items and clothes in Martha’s Village & Kitchen Thrift Shop.
This was her first year receiving the Dr. Carreon Scholarship tied with the Pathways to Success Scholarship. With the help of this scholarship, she attended the University of California San Diego and is pursuing a major in Human Biology. Her goal is to become a Primary Care Doctor and come back to the valley to make a difference.
