Cynthia Navarrete graduated a Salutatorian from Indio High School’s class of 2015. During her four years at Indio High School, she was involved with many of the Indio High School Bands including Concert Ensemble, Wind Symphony, Jazz Band, Marching Band, and the Desert Sands Unified School District Honor Band. In the majority of the bands she was involved in Cynthia held leadership positions where she was responsible for being a mentor to her classmates and for their understanding of various pieces of music.
Apart from her extracurricular school activities, Cynthia was also part of the Coachella Valley Youth Ensemble (CVYE) for three years. In CVYE, she played in a flute quartet where they performed for adjudicators and for various local events including the Indio Block Party and the Palms Springs Art Festival. In addition to being in a community band, she volunteered for the California Democratic Party’s Office in Indio, where she was actively involved in the election of Congressman Dr. Raul Ruiz. In the campaign she encouraged and registered community members to vote. She also volunteered at Martha’s Village & Kitchen where she helped organize and stock donated items and clothes in local Martha’s Village & Kitchen Thrift Shop.
This school year will be her second year receiving the Dr. Carreon Scholarship tied with the Pathways to Success Scholarship, and also her second year being a part of the Leadership Team at CVEP. With the help of the scholarship, she is attending the University of California, San Diego and is pursuing a major in Human Biology. This year at UCSD she will be taking part in the organization Global Medical Mission Alliance (GMMA), where through the organization she will volunteer to help aid those in need in the San Diego area. Her long term goal is to become a Primary Care Doctor and come back to work in the valley. She hopes that in the future she will be able to inspire the youth in the valley through her career.
