Cecilia A. Lemus

Cecilia A. Lemus was born and raised in Indio, California. She attended Indio High School where she was active in the IHS Marching Band color guard. During her senior year when she first received a COD Alumni Association Scholarship through CVEP Pathways to Success. Cecilia obtained her high school diploma in 2014 and thereafter attended College of the Desert (COD) with plans in transferring after completing her general education requirements.

After attending her first Summer Leadership Conference she was interested in joining the CVEP PTS Student Leadership Team where she would gain experience in team collaboration by working alongside other Coachella Valley college students. During her time at community college, Cecilia was also active in the COD AA Scholarship Club both as a general member and as the President during her last year. She was able to gain first time experience in leadership development and coordinating. Cecilia also had the opportunity to intern with the Riverside University Health System-Behavioral Health through Health Career Connections. Her project was to create a resource guide including information on shelters, food pantries, and other resources for low-income and homeless individuals available in cities between Banning to Blythe. Through these opportunities Cecilia was able to gain experience in professional development and career exploration.

In spring of 2016, Cecilia graduated from College of the Desert and transferred to the University of California Riverside. During her time at UC Riverside she has been a part of clubs such as M.E.Ch.A de UCR, Mujeres Unidas and Teatro Quinto Sol as well as other planning committees. Cecilia currently interns at Chicano Student Programs where she is preparing for the position as a Chicano Link Peer Mentor Assistant Coordinator for the 2017-2018 academic year. She plans to graduate in the Spring of 2018 with her BA in Sociology. Cecilia plans return to the Coachella Valley to work at developing programs for youth engagement in the community.
